Arundel 0 v 3 Pagham (RUR CUP) 20/09/2016

Quite simply this cup match was won in the first 45 minutes when Pagham produced a master class with excellent passing and movement and clinical finishing. Sometimes in football you have to admire the oppositions performance, and this was one of those occasions.

Pagham started the better with the first real shot of note coming from ex Arundel player Jordan Clark, when his firmly hit shot from 18 yards was well saved by James Fernandes in the Arundel goal. Then slightly against the run of play on 15 minutes Scott Tipper passed to Dave Herbert 10 yards out, and he was extremely unlucky to see his goal bound shot superbly blocked by Darryl Wollers to keep the score-line at 0-0. On 23 minutes Pagham opened the scoring when a long range pass in behind Arundel's Cameron Elder found Paghams Scott Murfin who ran clear to fire home an angled shot from 16 yards, Arundel then conceded a second goal only two minutes later when another ball in behind the Arundel defence found Scott Murfin and he played in Juman Van Oriel who made no mistake when finishing clinically on the far post from 12 yards. Arundel would liked to have gone in at half time only 2 down with the chance of regrouping and putting things right in the second half. However, Pagham had different ideas and increased their lead when inform Scott Murfin show great skill and calmness in firing home from a pinpoint Rueben French cross . HT 0-3

To Arundel’s credit at 0-3 down they still worked hard and contained Pagham in the second half, and in doing so managed to create two good goal scoring opportunities of note, the first one came from a Barney Boutwood with a 20 yard freekick that just went wide, and the second saw a superb save from Pagham’s James Binfield to deny Dion Jarvis after some good build up play from Arundel.
