Mullets show ‘unbelievable character’ to win at Dockers Harry Russell scored twice as Arundel came back from two goals down to win at Newhaven last night.
Arundel Football Club fought back from two goals down to win at Newhaven last night and end a five-game winless league run
Scott Taylor’s spot-kick and Ebou Jallow’s effort put Dockers in control of the Southern Combination League Premier Division match but a brace from Harry Russell and Lewis Jenkins’ header helped Mullets to a 3-2 success. Arundel joint manager Craig Stuart felt the spirit his side showed was terrific and said: “We showed unbelievable character to come back and win it. We’ve known this has been there, it was just a case of showing it and we did that. “Newhaven is never an easy place to go, so to come back in the way we did was magnificent. This will breed confidence across the whole squad now.” Jordan Dudas hauled down James Rhodes in the penalty area three minutes before the break and Taylor stepped up to put the hosts ahead. Ash Hunter then gave away possession and Jallow broke clear to double Dockers’ lead on 48 minutes. Mullets’ response was instant as Harry Russell pulled one back a minute later when he headed home from a corner. Lewis Jenkins pulled Arundel level with 25 minutes to go, before Harry Russell completed the turnaround with a thunderous strike on 72 minutes.
