In a week which has seen impressive back-to-back victories in both league and cup competition, Mullet’s Manager Craig found time to reflect on what has been one of his most pleasing weeks as a manager.

An impressive 1-0 home victory last weekend saw The Mullets overcome a strong Godalming Town side, in a tightly contested affair which attracted a bumper crowd to Mill Road.

“The win against Godalming last Saturday was probably the best result we have had since I took over at the club.”

“Man for man we were immense, and even the subs who came on did really well. It is a collective effort – everyone turned up, including the supporters.”

“We controlled the game for the full ninety minutes against a side that had only conceded one goal, and not lost a game all season.”

“Godalming then went on to beat Horsham YMCA midweek in the cup, so that shows what a good side they are. They will be right up there at the end of the season.”

Midweek the Mullets travelled to league rivals Worthing Utd in the second round of The Peter Bentley Challenge Trophy, where a dramatic 3-2 victory sealed a third-round away tie with Sussex Premier League leaders Peacehaven & Telscombe.

“It is always a tricky tie at Worthing United – they were well organised, really fired up and energetic.”

“We rested a few players, but we came through it well. That is the third game this season in which we have scored a late winner, which shows this side will always battle right up until the final whistle.”

“Steve Herbert showed everyone why he is the skipper with two goals – a late penalty where he kept his cool, and his first goal was a magnificent solo effort. He has started this season phenomenally well which is reflected in his player of the month award for August.”

“The thing about Steve is he sets the standard for those around him. He is a brilliant captain.”

This weekend sees the Mullets make the long journey north to Chessington & Hook United, who have had a mixed start to the season.

The blues narrowly missed out on the play-offs last season, and have recruited well over the summer – but so far find themselves at the wrong end of the table in 14th place.

“Chessington & Hook will be a really tough game. We are missing a fair few players with holidays, injuries etc, so we will need to be at our absolute best.”

“Some players will get an opportunity to start the game and make their claims, but that is one thing I love about this season’s squad – everyone is good enough to come in and excel. We are blessed with really good squad depth.”

“Chessington will be well organised and fit team – I know their manager well, and he will always make sure they are well drilled and up for the game.”
