In a week which saw The Mullets bow out of the Sussex County Cup and pick up a point on the road at Chessington & Hook United, this weekend sees a return to league action with an away fixture against Banstead Athletic.
You would forgive the squad for feeling a little deja vu tomorrow as they make their way up to leafy Surrey. The A’s have recently struck up a ground sharing arrangement with last weekends opponents Chessington & Hook United – a nervy fixture which ended in a 1-1 draw courtesy of a Will Breden goal.
The A’s currently find themselves sat in 15th place in the SCFL League table, and after a tricky start to their new surroundings in the division, have picked up impressive back-to-back league victories on the road against Selsey and East Preston.
Mullets’ manager Craig Stuart found time to reflect on a tricky seven days for the squad.
“We have had a fair few injuries recently, and have also had players on holiday – so it has been more difficult of late.”
“Against Chessington, we would have taken a point before kick-off.”
“The lads who played did really well, dug deep and held on to a well earnt draw. These are the type of games where I think we will look back on at the end of season and realise how much of an important point it was. I was proud manager last weekend”
“With us now having the more players back available, It is time to kick on again and show everyone what we are about.”
Midweek saw The Mullets lose on home soil 5-3 in challenging weather conditions against SCFL Premier Division side AFC Varndeneans.
“We were disappointed to lose the game against Varndeneans. We made a lot of changes and gave a few players valuable minutes in the legs.”
“Varndeneans were impressive – particularly in forward areas. The lad who played on the wing was absolutely outstanding, and was the difference between the two teams. He could easily play a league or two higher. I am glad we dont have to play against him every week”
“Overall, I was pleased with the lads who came into the team, and it has definitely given me something to think about this weekend.”
This week has seen the club welcome a new signing to Mill Road in ex Bognor Regis Town front man Tom Holland from Pagham.
The former Rocks player made four substitute appearances for the club last season in the Isthmian Premier league, and has also made eight appearances for SCFL side Pagham this season.
“Tom is an exciting winger who can also play centre forward or as a number ten. He gives us more options at the top end of the pitch, and I think he can really kick on here. I am looking forward to working with him.”
Tom will be available for selection tomorrow, and will be looking to help the team return to winning ways.
