Summary
Arundel FC’s recent run of fine form was halted by a resilient Jarvis Brook side, who edged a competitive match 3-2 at Arundel’s Mill Road. Despite an encouraging start and a spirited performance, the Mullets were unable to overcome a clinical opposition on a heavy pitch that limited the quality of football on display.
Team News
• Arundel were without Harrison Mott (illness), Liam Brady (suspension), and Jack Spinks (injury).
• Returning to the squad were captain Steve Herbert, centre back Levi Martin, and striker Harry Russell.
First Half
The Mullets got off to the perfect start, taking the lead inside three minutes through man of the match Daegan Walsh, who headed home from a well-delivered corner by Steve Herbert. Jarvis Brook responded quickly, equalising after just eight minutes when Buster Hoy broke clear and calmly finished past Arundel keeper Maciek Kason.
Arundel almost reclaimed the lead shortly afterward, as Walsh’s header crashed against the crossbar. However, it was Jarvis Brook who went in front on 22 minutes, benefitting from a deflected cross that looped into the top corner. Just before the break, the visitors extended their lead with a powerful strike from the edge of the box, making it 1-3 at half-time.
Second Half
The intensity continued after the interval, with Arundel starting brightly. Matt Storm’s fierce effort from the right was well saved by Ford Robertshaw in the Jarvis Brook goal. Arundel battled gamely and arguably shaded the half, but struggled to carve out clear chances from open play.
A pair of free kicks from Sam Conolly and Billy Ground—both from dangerous positions just outside the box—sailed over the bar, leaving Arundel still chasing the game.
Late Drama
With five minutes to go, substitute Henry Breden offered hope for the home side by breaking clear and finishing confidently from 16 yards out. Arundel pressed hard for an equaliser, coming agonisingly close in injury time when Billy Ground’s header from eight yards went narrowly over the bar. Ultimately, Jarvis Brook held firm to secure the points.
Next Fixture
Arundel FC will look to return to winning ways in their next match at home to local rivals East Preston FC on Saturday, 27th December.
Merry Christmas to everyone from at Arundel FC
