This weekend see’s The Mullets attempt to create another cupset as we travel to VCD Athletic in The FA Vase 2nd Round – the furthest The Mullets have progressed in the compeition in over fifteen years.
This is not the first time that the two clubs have met.
The Vickers eliminated Arundel in Round 3 of the competition back in 2006 – securing a 2-1 victory at Mill Road in the process.
The Mullets make the 150 mile round trip to Kent on the back of some encouraging form, which has seen Craig Stuart’s men pick up back-to-back league wins against Montpellier Villa – and an even more impressive 5-1 victory on the road against league challengers Uckfield Town.
With his free scoring team netting an impressive eleven goals over the last two games, Mullets Manager Craig Stuart is optimistic going into this weekend’s game, however he also under no illusions how big of a task it is against a side who are top of the league above, and a club that were competing in the Isthmian Premier League in no less than 2018.
“We have done our homework on VCD. We know what their strengths are and we will adapt accordingly.”
“The lads know what they need to do, and I know they will run through brick walls in order to try and achieve it.”
“We will need some luck – which you need in any cup competition, and we will need to stay in the game as long as we can by not conceding too early.”
“Football is about suprises – and it will take a monumental effort to get a result, but I back these lads 100%.
“We have something special at this football club, and they are an unbelievable group to work with – trust me, we fear nobody.”
The Mullets head into this weekend’s game at near full strength, (Billy Ground unavailable) leaving the manager with a selection headache.
“I am blessed to have such a deep squad this season numbers wise, and everyone is there on merit.”
“It is always hard leaving players out, particularly for the big games like this – but everyone will get opportunities – its up for them to take them when they come round.”
