Newhaven 6-0 Arundel (HT 3-0)
Lee Robinson (13, 44, 89, 90), Harry Docherty (40), Oliver Davies (90+2)

Newhaven keep their good run going with a convincing victory and another clean sheet.

Newhaven started very brightly and within the first minute Lee Robinson found himself through on goal but his shot flew over the bar.

It wasn’t long though before the Dockers did make the breakthrough, a long ball from Jake Buss found Robinson who lifted the ball over the advancing keeper before running round him to slot home from close range, 1-0.

Matt Gunn almost made it two but his stooping header from Kyle Woolven’s corner was just wide.

Arundel then had a chance when their striker ran onto a through ball but Busswas out of his goal quickly to block the shot.

Newhaven responded with another chance of their own, Woolven’s chipped pass found Lukas Franzen-Jones inside the area and his skill enabled him to hook a shot goalwards, the ball struck the bar with the keeper beaten and Ian Robinson’s follow up went into the side netting.

Lee Robinson then had another one on one opportunity but again his shot was too high and didn’t trouble the keeper.

With 5 minutes of the half left Harry Docherty doubled the lead, his excellent movement in the area created space for him to power in a header from Woolven’s corner, 2-0.

Right on the stroke of half time Lee Robinson grabbed his second, tucking home the rebound after Ian Robinson’s good run and shot, 3-0.

The second half was more of the same with the Dockers in full control, Freddie Beale had an early chance when he latched onto Gunn’s knockdown from Rhys Smith’s long throw, but he fired over as he was taken out by an Arundel defender.

Arundel then caught Newhaven with a quick counter attack but once again Buss was equal to the threat ad saved well with his feet.

The Dockers responded well again and were soon back on the front foot, Woolven breaking down the left to the goal line and cutting the ball back into the area, Lee Robinson met the ball on the stretch but could only divert it wide of the target.

The Dockers thought they had got the fourth moments later, Woolven played in Ian Robinson and his low shot crept under the Arundel keeper Stuart McDonald but was cleared off the line by a covering defender despite Lee Robinson almost getting a crucial touch.

Another Woolven corner then caused Arundel problems, Smith heading back across goal to Beale but his header was hacked off the line.

With two minutes of normal time left it looked like being a comfortable, though slightly frustrating, 3-0 win, but a crazy final few minutes ensued.

Franzen-Jones released Lee Robinson in behind and he made no mistake slotting the ball into the bottom corner for his 50th of the season, 4-0.

Arundel were clearly rattled and straight from kick off Ebou Jallow again released Robinson who ran through and lobbed the keeper for his fourth of the afternoon, 5-0.

The icing on the cake was applied in injury time, Beale’s cross found Oliver Davies in space on the corner of the area and his low shot found the bottom corner to wrap up the points, 6-0.

So another well deserved three points sees the Dockers remain well positioned in the table with games in hand still on everyone around them.
